MED POL - Programme for the Assessment and Control of Marine Pollution, is the scientific-technical component of MAP responsible for the implementation of measures aiming at prevent, eliminate or limit the pollution from marine and coastal land-based activities, discharges and hazardous waste. MED POL assists the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention in the formulation and implementation of pollution monitoring programs, including measures of prevention and remediation to reduce pollution and the development of action plans, to eliminate sources of terrestrial contamination.

Within CAMP Italy Project, MED POL supports the implementation of the Regional Plan on marine litter in order to ensure the achievement of the GES (Good Environmental Status) and to help in linking and integrating project activities with the implementation of those measures, legally binding, relating to marine and coastal environment. For example, some measures adopted by the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention are included in the Regional Plan on marine waste management adopted by the COP 18 (November 2013, Istanbul, Turkey).
